EIGHT OF CUPS

Hi everyone.

Sorry I've not been keeping up with the blog. Owing to illness and various other problems I've had to be rather 8 of Cupsy and walk away from a lot for now.

On Facebook and Twitter I'm still around, just about, and circulating other people's tarot posts, links, and interesting oddments.

Blessings to all.
Xx

DECK REVIEW: The Medieval Tarot

Click on the link just below to read my review on Amazon of this deck and to purchase the gorgeously illustrated and quirky Medieval Tarot when it becomes available again (Lo Scarabeo; artist Guido Zibordi Marchesi).

The Medieval Tarot

I will say a few extra words about the deck here in this blog post. First, I absolutely love this deck. It has surprisingly deep layers and the most expressive faces of any tarot deck out there. Ever.

It may not suit you if you're into abstract designs or you fancy fairies but it's exquisitely detailed, gorgeously coloured, nuanced, and really rather delightfully cheeky in places. Here we stick to medieval courtly scenes, complete with classic chequered floors and fleur-de-lils style walls in many cards, and classic courtly clothing (I just adore all the headwear!) - unless it's an outdoorsy rustic scene where we find the peasants, the King's armoured mercenaries, and the merchant class. These are often having some kind of contretemps with their truculent animals - the 8 of Cups tugs at his stubborn warthog who's looking a little grumpy to say the least; paws and legs in "I'm not going anywhere" stance. This brings me to the less than obvious dimension of this deck.

Grief that hasn't been Brief

Sorry it's been so long everyone.

I've not been busy, just crushed. Last November in 2015 I suffered a trauma to my left ear and have been struggling with severe intrusive tinnitus ever since. I never imagined anything that inhuman could possibly exist. It's impacted every area of my life and I've spent most of my time at ENT, hospital, and even the psychiatrist as I've been so anxious and depressed.

If only I could go back in time and prevent the accident!

My new accommodation isn't working out either so I'm trying to summon up the resources to move again but the tinnitus is making life a 100 times more difficult.

It's hard to concentrate but I just about manage some Facebook and Twitter if you want to catch me there.

I wish I had better news or was even able to summon up the energy for more tarot blog posts.

It's dragged on a very long time without improvement so I'm grieving my loss of peace and quiet. The thought of never having silence again...or a night of uninterrupted sleep.

I can only hope.

Until then I wish everyone well and hope one day I might be back to something near normal.

Apologies!

My apologies for being away for a while...

There isn't a busy bee tarot card but if there was I would post it here.

Here's me today. Ok I don't have blonde hair and it's quite nippy here in the UK so I'm not wearing some kind of thin strappy something but...yeah. Clock watching, lists, too much to organize. Feeling a little overwhelmed by so much going on I need to sort out...and not totally fit and well...where's the Slump Trump card? Perhaps The Empress reclining in resplendent comfort? Although I don't feel that in control. The crown and sceptre may have to wait.

But I'm getting there. Life moves so slowly sometimes. You kick, shove, prod, wrangle, try a new angle, decide to 'go with the flow' instead and nothing happens...all a bit static Knight of Pentacles. Looking in the right direction but not actually moving.

Although I *have* moved. I've been busy moving home. Cue Four of Wands. It's wonderful! But it's been up there at the top of the Stress list and I need to sort out my previous place and tie up all the dangly loose ends...and...and...

Phew.

As I said. This is me today.

When Court Cards go Wrong Part Three: Questionable Queens

PSYCHO-PROFILE: QUESTIONABLE QUEENS

Even in upright positions the tarot cards are not univocal or one-dimensional. There are shades, shadows, reflections, inflections and layers of meaning to each card. Often whether you read the cards "positively" or "negatively" depends on the theme of the reading, their position and their relation to other cards in a spread.

With the Court cards we know that they can represent a theme, a situation or an event. A Page (or Princess) can also be a message or piece of news. However, more usually they are people. Sometimes the querent, more frequently someone the querent knows, has known, or is about to know.

But what if it's not a happy sight? What unwelcome qualities could the Courts betoken in a person? What might they look like on a bad day?

Here's a Psyche Profile of the Court cards in their less likeable guise. Of course, it should be noted that they don't exhaust a personality; they only highlight those qualities or characteristics most pertinent to the issue at hand.

Queen of Wands
She's warm, she's witty, she's smart. The Queen of Wands has oodles of energy, upbeat determination and exuberance. Nothing holds her back, little can get her down. She bounces in, dazzles, and steals the show. She's life and verve, good cheer and fortitude. She's bewitching, enchanting.

On a bad day the Queen of Wands is, uh, not so likeable. She's hostessing at her Tupperware party, furiously stacking up displays of plastic boxes for cakes, salads, sandwiches, bread; all sorts of shapes and sizes of box for sale. She's dressed up for it in an eye-catching outfit and toiled for weeks networking to secure a large posse of people. She darts around engagingly, chatting and smiling but when Mrs Withers begins to question her taste and her prices our Queen feels a flicker of indignation.

Skipping ahead, there are QUESTIONABLE QUEENS
and NUTTY KNIGHTS

Page of Wands
Our Page of Wands is an exuberant, highly motivated fellow. He's energetic, dynamic, passionate, engaged, aspirational and inspirational. He's a go-getter and an explorer.

Gone wrong, he's lazy and slobs around with no motivation, focus, goals or projects. He sits about yawning, bored, twiddling the TV remote and stolidly immobile on the couch. He can barely be bothered to walk to the fridge for the next snack. This Page impatiently orders a take-away instead, if that's possible, or shouts for someone else to act as maidservant or butler.

THE HERMIT CARD: Philosopher-therapist?

The fabulous Hermit from Erik C. Dunne's Tarot Illuminati

'I love the great despisers because they are the great adorers, they are the arrows of longing for the other shore' ~ Friedrich Nietzsche, Thus Spake Zarathustra (henceforth TSZ)

What's the first thought that strikes you when you look at The Hermit card?

He's alone.

Often depicted wandering in a forresty wilderness or even a starkly barren and inhospitable semi-arctic landscape, we already know that this card is going to be about being alone and removed from the everyday and the familiar. But why?
